I'll be the first! said Karla as she ran to the ocean!!
Wonderful memories from our last summer holidays! I thought that I knew beautiful beaches, but this place Cayo Santa Maria, in Cuba, is like paradise. The beach is clean, the people is super-friendly and it is safe! Some people laugh at me when I told that we were going to Cuba in July...but it was the best choice, the beach was only for us and the weather was wonderful. We can't wait to come back!!!
http://www.flickr.com/people/marthaquiroga-art/
martha quirogahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12337468179005669905noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2685834986510056367.post-55053703412860174982010-06-14T15:21:00.000-07:002010-06-14T15:23:01.510-07:00Caribbean Runway

This is my last artwork, painted with Soft Pastels on Paper...my inspiration, the way that this ladies walk while they balance a bowl full of fruits on top of their heads. It shows a Fruit Seller at the market, wearing bright color clothing and under a huge blue umbrella that protects her and her merchandise from the sun. The media is Soft Pastels on paper. I love soft pastels because they are easy to use and they let me as a painter to express lights and shadows in an amazing way. My inspiration is from the Fruit Sellers that I use to see in Cartagena, Colombia, a beautiful historic city on the shores of the Caribbean Coast. I feel admiration for those hardworking women that always were kind and friendly.
http://www.flickr.com/people/marthaquiroga-art/
martha quirogahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12337468179005669905noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2685834986510056367.post-26953520615540622052010-06-03T14:32:00.000-07:002010-06-03T14:32:46.441-07:00The Blue Umbrella...

That's the name for this artwork. With my daughter doing her First Holy Communion in the end of April, I spent most of March and April preparing things for this important event in her life. I wanted to do something special for her and her friends that involved art. I found some nice unfinished wood crosses. They were the perfect canvasses for doing some religious art. Religious art, modern and without eyes!...I don't know if it is the same for you, but for me, it always feels weird to be in a room with art that has eyes on it!... I looked and looked, and finally I found the artwork of an organic artist( http://organicdrawings.blogspot.com/ )that inspired me and the final product is this. The idea was doing a representation of Jesus without drawing his face. I stained the wood and then I draw the pattern using black acrylic paint, and I really love the result!!
In the past I have painted in anyplace at my home, just looking for a place with great illumination, it didn't matter where. Not long ago I moved into a new home, and for the first time I thought about having a place to put my easel permanently. I figured out that the perfect place for my studio was the loft. I like this place because it is quiet. I can paint for hours without noticing the time. Sometimes I paint very early in the morning, or even at night, and the best of all, I don't have to go out, specially during the Winter. I'm still organizing my studio, and right now it is just a table, a couple of chairs and my easel in front of a window, in the future I want to add extra lights, a big easel for my Soft Pastel's artwork, and a small library for my art books.
This is my first time as a blogger. As English is my second language you may find some mistakes in my writing, sorry about that...I'll do my best, I promise!!!
I have an advantage, you can write to me in Spanish and I would answer too!!!
A blogger friend, Veronica Diago, who is a super-creative artist, (check her artwork, it is amazing!)suggested to me to start this blog adventure!!I'm thrilled!!! I want to meet people that loves art as I do!!!
I have been painting for many years, at least 15 of them(although I'm still young...hehe)...but for many reasons I never took my gift as something serious. Now I want to built a career on that.
I have been painting almost daily for the past three months. This is one of my most recent paintings.
Tell me what you think about them...
http://www.flickr.com/people/marthaquiroga-art/
martha quirogahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12337468179005669905noreply@blogger.com0
